PEP 3: ORGANISATION AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT
St Thomas' Primary School, Terang
2012
Monday 12th November - Friday 30th November
Grade 2/3
The three week block of teaching enabled me to continue to develop in terms of my organisation and teaching skills, including the planning and implementing of lessons, organising and managing children, and building professional relationships with school staff and students. I ensured that I was thoroughly prepared for all lessons, in order to have a good understanding of the content for each lesson. I monitored the learning of each child in the classroom, and assisted when needed, to enable the students to achieve optimal learning. I was happily able to develop good relationships with each of the students, which assisted me to feel comfortable around them as well as each student feeling comfortable having me as a teacher in their classroom. I formed professional relationships with all staff, and they happily assisted me whenever it was required.
Throughout the three week block, I was able to present a range of lessons to the students, including:
Mathematics, that covered different mathematical topics, allowing the students to revise the mathematical content. Such topics included directions, 2D and 3D shapes, place value, graphs, decimals and measuring volume, capacity, mass, length and width.
Reading, which involved reading groups each morning, where children were placed into their different groups to complete a particular reading task. I had the role of working with one group each day, analysing and interpreting a particular text type.
Writing, which included a spelling test twice a week, with a particular sound being the focus each week, and completing activities in their Write Well books.
Inquiry unit, which focused on inventions, where I had the task of supervising and assisting the students in creating hot air balloons, made out of paper Mache.
Religious Education, where the theme of being kind to others was reflected through focusing on the story of The Rainbow Fish and completing tasks related to this story.

"I have enjoyed having Amy in the classroom. Throughout the 3 weeks, she has grown in confidence and practised a range of teaching skills. She has been conscientious in her lesson planning and preparation and didn't hesitate to ask questions to take advice. She was a great help during inquiry unit sessions guiding children through the making and painting of hot air balloons".
