Digi-tell: digital storytelling program
Lumen Christi Primary School, Ballarat, 2013
In working with two fellow pre-service teachers, this task required us to plan, implement and evaluate a digital storytelling program, as part of an after school program for 4 weeks, working with four grade three students from Lumen Christi. Our focus for the program was on procedural texts, where students were provided with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of this particular text through being able to follow and produce a particular recipe each week. By the end of the four weeks, we were able to create a digital story that represented what the student's had learnt whilst undertaking the program and the students were provided with their own DVD. The program also involved creating a learning log for one student, where I monitored and assessed the child each week, recording the learning behaviours that were evident.
Through completing this program, it allowed me to become aware of the skills and understandings that are required in order to effectively develop a literacy program. I have learnt of the importance of evaluation in order to plan effectively for the children's needs and achieve optimal literacy learning. The completion of a digital story provided me to further improve my ICT skills, as I had the task of compiling the digital story and know this will be very beneficial for my own teaching.
